Welcome to Aldon Tutoring Centres, Essendon. This centre is owned and operated by Anna, a qualified teacher and her husband Tom who are both committed to helping your child achieve their true learning potential. With over 33 years experience, Anna has the knowledge and skills to make a real difference to your child's education. Anna has worked with a vast number of students from varying backgrounds and learning needs, including special needs students. Her role has varied from classroom teaching, intervention and extension work with children, to co-ordinating in the areas of literacy and numeracy. She has the knowledge and understanding in cutting edge educational research which has resulted in developing a tutoring centre that offers best teaching practice and learning in both literacy and numeracy. Her passion for learning and teaching is the reason why she owns and operates Aldon Tutoring Centres, Essendon. Her centre has been providing tutoring to students in the local community and surrounding suburbs for over 13 years.

PERSONALISED LEARNING

We provide affordable tutoring as we work with students in small groups which vary from 2 to 4 students in each session . This is NOT group tutoring as each students works on their own program and needs. We personalise each and every students learning plan by providing a diverse variety of educational programs, learning experiences, instructional approaches, and academic support strategies that are intended to address the distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations of individual students. Our "Personalized learning" approach is an alternative to “one-size-fits-all” approach used in schools where teachers may, for example, provide all students in a given course with the same type of instruction, the same assignments, and the same assessemnts with little variation or modification from student to student. Our goal is to make individuals learning needs the primary consideration in important educational and instructional decisions with in each group session..

We use examples freely. Many students want to be shown why a concept or technique is useful before they want to study it further. We constantly Inform students about how tutoring prepares them for future opportunities.
We use a variety of student-active teaching activities. These activities directly engage students in the material and give them opportunities to achieve a level of mastery.
We set realistic performance goals and help students achieve them by encouraging them to set their own reasonable goals. We design tasks that are appropriately challenging in view of the experience and aptitude of each student.
We are free with our praise and constructive in criticism. We help students understand that negative comments should pertain to particular performances, not the performer. We offer non judgmental feedback on students’ work, stress opportunities to improve and look for ways to stimulate advancement.

We giive our students as much control over their own education as possible. We discuss starting points at each lesson and encourage students to contribute to this decision. Informal assessment occurs at each session and in a variety of ways to ensure we are providing students with suitable delivery methods and enough practise to master content.

What We Provide

ENGLISH TUTORING

We offer english tutoring to student from prep upto VCE.

English tutoring for our primary students focus on developing literacy skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary development and much more. All lessons for our primary students are personalised and tailored to their individual needs.

English tutoring for students year 7 to 10 focuses on building confidence in the writing and communications area through improving spelling, comprehension, grammar and focusing on student's ability to structure essays. All lessons are personalized allowing focus to be on each student's point of need.

Year 10/12- Focus is on preparing students for their VCE exams.
The following essay structures are focused on :

Language analysis,
Text Response and
Expository essay structures.
Oral presentation

Students are given the opportunity to discuss, practice and get immediate feedback on their essays. Specific writing techniques are taught to empower students with knowledge and confidence in a warm, supportive and friendly environment where they are encouraged to develop confidence in their own writing abilities. Essay structures and techniques are broken down and practised in small sections before the whole essay is attempted or for those who need consolidation or extension techniques are fine tune and improved on what they already know. MATH TUTORING

Math Prep to year 6

Once we have assessed your child, we establish their point of need. We work on improving times tables knowledge, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time telling, worded problems. We provide students with techniques and strategies to make sure that each student has simple strategies to move away from using their fingers to work out basic problems. We do this using a variety of fun and engaging resources to ensure your child develops confidence. All lessons are personalised and tailored to your child's needs allowing focus to be on your child's point of needs

Maths Year 7 to VCE

After a brief discussion with your child we establish your child's point of need , whether it be extension, consolidation , intervention work or revision. All lessons are personalized with specific focus given to problematic areas, supporting students to bridge learning gaps, coping with content and allowing them to move forward in their maths class.

SCIENCE TUTORING

We tutor students from year 7 to year 12 in all the sciences. We ensure your child leaves each session with an understanding that gives them the knowledge and confidence to engage in class discussion, ask questions and improve in test results.
